CONSUL OF THE PRINCIPALITY OF MONACO TO SWEDEN

Advokat Jan E. Frydman, after completing an American university degree in
Business Administration and Economics, worked for many years in senior positions
with Swedish and US businesses in manufacturing/international trade,
banking and insurance.
After finishing his Swedish law degree, he practiced
Swedish and international business law for a number of years with
Mannheimer Swartling in Stockholm and New York,
focusing on international transactions and M & A.
He was also the Firm’s Head of Information and Knowledge Management.
When Sweden joined the EU, Jan was recruited to the European Commission
in Brussels, where he remained for some two decades, initially as legal adviser
to the Director General for Enterprise and Industry, followed by senior position as responsible for international affairs, with a focus on trade and regulatory matters, particularly with the U.S., Canada, China and Japan and, finally, served as
Special Adviser to the European Commissioner for Trade, Cecilia Malmström.
Jan also served as adj. Judge of the Svea Court of Appeal.
He is at present the the Consul of the Principality of Monaco to Sweden,
and the Head of Delegation of the Swedish Bar Association
to the Council of European Bar Associations and Law Societies.
He is also a member of the Association Swedes Worldwide’s Expert Panel (SVIV),
and serves as President of the Swedish-Belgian Association.
He was knighted with the rank of Officer in the Order of Leopold by
H.M. King Philippe of Belgium in March 2023.
